S3 E10 ReptilianThe program starts off with a young couple navigating the New York City underground tunnels to find a secret rave. There are several odd glowing symbols that are along the sides of the tunnels. They find a hooded figure who marks the girl, but denies access to the guy. The girl continues without him after taking their camera. At the rave, the girl is filming when she is suddenly attacked. NYPD detectives John Sloan and Ronda Remirez are contacted to deal with the problem of missing teens. The detectives manage to trick one of the promoters for these raves named Steven "Spike" Mills to lead them to one of the raves. After some briefing, Spike agrees reluctantly to lead them to one of the raves. As they travel through the tunnels, Spike explains that the symbols are directions. They run into a hooded figure who grants them access by marking their hands. The detectives see one of the hooded figures walk down a hallway, and they convince Spike to follow the figure with them. He reluctantly
S1 E14 HellhoundIn 2005, a group of four goth college students are ready to induct Nora Callaman, into their group. The leader, Annabel Lilith, doubts the worthiness of this girl, and plans to scare her. After picking Nora up, they all encounter a giant dog (Nora doesn't see it, as she is blindfolded.) which promptly disappears. Dismissing the incident, they head to a graveyard and the still-blindfolded Nora is given a test. They soon begin the initiation ritual. Suddenly, the dog returns, barks at them and vanishes. Everyone freaks out but Annabel Lilith refuses to believe it is supernatural, despite the fact that the dog left behind a patch of scorched earth. Continuing the ritual, Annabel Lilith then forces Nora to drink what looks like blood, but is actually fake. Since Nora drank it with no fear or disgust, she is accepted. She begins bonding with Severin, the only male member of the group. Their walk is cut short when the dog appears. She tells Severin not to look at it. When it leaves, the two
S1 E13 Death WormIn the summer of 2008, Two ATV racers named Greg Cole and Benton Davis were competing in a 3 day, 500 mile race across the Gobi Desert until they get lost. They rest for a while, but Greg is attacked by some unseen creature. It attacks him again later that night, this time leaving some sort of corrosive acid on his leg, rendering him immobile. Benton leaves to find help, and Greg is dragged away by something large. Benton returns but can't find Greg. He takes Greg's camera in order to deliver a message to anyone who finds it. Suddenly, a swarm of creatures appears and attacks him. In the epilogue, it's revealed that the bodies of the racers were never found, although their vehicles were. The authorities dismissed the burrows left at the site around Greg and Benton's equipment
S1 E12 MothmanIn December 1967, Point Pleasant, West Virginia, a few days after the Silver Bridge collapse, two FBI agents interrogate a man named Roy Kirby. Roy witnessed the collapse, and he has some home movie footage that may be worth examining. He tells the two men who are interrogating him (Tom Williams and Carl Montgomery) that he frequently saw a large creature during the two weeks before the collapse. He soon grew obsessed with the creature, straining his relationship with his wife, Nancy. As expected, the two agents don't believe him, even going as far as to accuse Roy of causing the collapse. Roy manages to save himself by revealing that an old woman he encountered said. The woman claimed to have seen the creature as well. The F.B.I. releases him, but they take his footage. Roy resumes life with his wife, and he promises never to speak of the creature again. In the epilogue, it is stated that a woman saw a moth man-like creature before the 2007 I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis.
S1 E11 SkinwalkerOn a return visit home from college, Andy Miller plans to videotape the ranch life at the Skinwalker Ranch in which he was raised for his girlfriend. Also, he sees this as a chance to reconnect with his father, Sam. They became estranged when Andy opted for college rather than take over the family business. That day, they decide to check on a mother sheep on the north edge of their property. Along the way, they encounter a strange Native-American man clad in wolf skin. They just shrug it off. When they get to the northernmost part of the ranch, Sam finds fresh coyote tracks in the area. Wanting to protect their sheep, Sam begins looking for it. During their search, strange things begin happening. The coyote tracks turn into human footprints, then they start hearing familiar voices from home although the truck's radio is turned off. The mother sheep cries out and a coyote is heard in the background. Sam, having already lost too many of his livestock, manages to find the coyote and shoot
S1 E10 ThunderbirdOn November 2007, three Chicago youths, Kevin Weller and Paxton Reed, plan to go to a place called "The Ditch" to make a skateboarding video of themselves, breaking into a restricted area of a national park to get there. Cole Weller, the youngest of the boys, soon has to go to the bathroom, and Kevin and Paxton are left alone during the hike. Something large suddenly swoops down on them, frightening them both. Cole returns from his rest stop, and believes that the others are lying when they claim that they saw a huge bird. Later, they find a dead possum hanging from a tree branch. After poking at it with a stick, they continue on. They make it to "The Ditch" and manage to have a fun time for a brief period, but Cole's leg is broken after he tries a new skateboarding trick. Kevin and Paxton are leaving to find help when they hear the "bird" from above. Kevin suddenly gets called on his cell by his little brother, Cole, on which they hear him scream and a bird screech. They frantically h
S1 E9 MegacondaIn the summer of 2008, during midnight, two animal activists named Scott Sumner and Evan Metcalf-Chambers gathering information on a textile company run by Ken Tobar, who also sells illegal animals. The scene is filmed via the camera the two are holding and security cameras dotted everywhere in a warehouse in San Jose, California. It begins with the two outside the gate of the warehouse. Scott places a rug over the barbed wire fence, and they both crawl over. They are unaware that retired police officer and security guard Larry Johnson and his German Shepherd guarddog Bishop are patrolling the area. Using a crowbar, the two break into the warehouse and start investigating. The security guard hears them and starts looking for the sounds from inside the warehouse. The two end up finding a large room full of exotic animals. The room is recorded on tape, and, as they attempt to leave, Larry catches up with them and demands to know what is going on. As the two explain, he pulls out a gun an
SS1 E8 Death RaptorIn Octocber 23, 2007, a pair of paranormal investigators from the "American Paranormal Research Team (A.P.R.T.)" called to research reports of demonic activity near a local church called Fallview Church in a small California town. Peter Grey, the leader, and his timid camerawoman, Jolene Sharrock, go into the church and are frightened by a mentally unstable old woman named Hazel Van Lear. She starts ranting about a demon that she claims to have seen, but the Archdeacon of the church appears and berates her. During the first interview, the archdeacon describes the monster that people have been seeing recently, including later an interview with Hazel, which is "filled with disturbing moments and as a former resident of Mawnan in southern Cornwall, United Kingdom in a 30-year prior, she experienced her own eerie encounter and the event lefted profound and impression on her and she was convinced that the creature somehow followed her to the states." It is a large, flying monster with giant
S1 E7 Cave DemonsOn January 25, 2002, United States Marine Forces in Afghanistan experience sonar interference coming from a cave near Tora Bora, which renders their sonar cave-mapping system useless. Believing it to be a jamming device built by the Taliban or Al-Queda, Corporals Lattrel Wade, Derrek Sawyer and Sergent Carlos Ramos investigate the cave, planning to destroy whatever is causing the interference. They use helmet cameras to record their mission. As they venture deeper into the cave, the soldiers discover large amounts of guano all over the place. They also find lots of bats living in the cave. Corporal Wade falls into a booby trap and falls into a lower section of the cave, breaking his back. As he lies there, he spots something flying past. The others find him and he seems delirious. Corporal Wade mutters that what he saw looked "like a lady (a reference to how some bat-like cryptids are known to have eerily feminine features)." One of the remaining Marines shouts excitedly that a woman m
His EyesIt has been three months since we heard from the mainland.
Speculation abounds. Some catastrophe has befallen them there; a plague has ended them, or a war, or perhaps something so dreadful that we cannot even imagine it. We are left here to starve, slowly, as we wait for news and supplies.
This morning we saw a boat on the horizon. Through the spyglass we saw that its occupant is a lone boy, and that his skin is patterned with lesions. Sula saw something in his eyes, he said, though he did not say what it was; but he was so shaken by the sight that he begged us to shoot the boat down before it reaches us.
We have no choice but to obey. We may pity the boy, but if he carries a plague a show of mercy might doom us. We will fire the cannon as soon as he comes within range.
We burned the flotsam brought in by the tide. There is no sign of the boy's body. With luck the current carried it away.
Sula woke with fever today. He sweats in rivers, and he will not open his eyes. He begged f
For the BoatmanCharon, I still keep the constellations in jars. You will not take me across the Acheron, so I wait on the river bank, trying to steal pennies from other passengers. I hear them clinking in your hull, ferryman, forgotten and oxidized. You call me by my name, even now.
"Persephone is dead, and her king never heard you crying out as I have."
I sang a hymn for you, Charon, but you only smiled and turned away.
Charon, have you met the slighted king? When he called, I answered, but his memory was just as rotten as mine. I had loved him with my own shadow, once. Ferryman, have you ever been in love?
"Stay on the shore. There are those who would see you swallowed whole. Little one, stay on the shore."
No one told them they couldn't swim to Tartarus. Sometimes, I believe I knew them better before you refused my paper stars.
Charon, am I drowning again? Or has there always been saltwater here? They never said anything.
"The inbetween is purging itself of you."

FFM 25: The Delivery BirdMom pressed her feet into the stirrups with all of her might, tears of joy and agony streaming down her face. The last push was the hardest, working out the shoulders and wings that followed the long, slender neck. After that, the rest of the stork slid out easily.
Mom and dad wrapped their arms around one another and looked upon it with a combination of euphoria and crippling exhaustion, eagerly waiting to see what the white sack in his beak held. But the messenger only looked back sympathetically, bowing its head in a solemn apology.
The pouch was empty.
In the Valley of the DevilsThis is how we prepare for winter in werewolf country: by lighting all the torches on the ramparts around the encampment, because werewolves fear fire, and so that we can see them when they come skulking in the dead of night. Sometimes, beneath the flames, we see the werewolves in our midst, the ones standing beside us. This makes the winter longer, and darker.
This is how we prepare for winter in the forest outside the camp: by catching rabbits and deer and possum, and roasting them on spits on our little fires, which we keep small so that the village will not see the smoke. If they locate us, they will come with guns and silver shrapnel, and tear us to bloody bits.
By first frost, we have finished digging the ditch around us. It is filled with blades pointing up, and hemlock and mistletoe, which the werewolves avoid as a vampire avoids garlic. We toss in the cut branches, and also some parts of their brethren, a skull or tooth, or a hand, which was once a paw
Do You See What I SeeRed.
It starts with a simple color. A simple color that results in the end of everything that was. Everything that would be. A simple color that destroyed the futures of so many. Who would have thought the world could be ended by the simplest of colors in the eyes of one girl.
She jumps from broken rooftop to broken rooftop. She glances back every other second. She pants and sprints, her auburn hair flying behind her in the wind. She has been running for only a couple of minutes, but the jumping has taken a toll on her body.
She looks up to the sky, the sun had been gone for years now. Darkness and plague raved the world. This was her fault. She tries not to think about it as she runs for her life. Haunting memories of what she did. She can still hear the screams of people whose lives she took. She begins to cry, each tear is hot and heavy of her face. She begins to stop, slowing with
The Ghost Dear Diary,
Today, Lizzie made a new friend. She says I should come play with them, but I’ve seen the scratches on her arms and the smile that tells me she’s hiding her pain. Felix doesn’t like the new friend either – he hisses every time the boy comes near him.
I don’t think anyone else can see him. Just me, Lizzie and Felix. It’s almost like we’re at war – Lizzie and the boy against Felix and I. The grown-ups try and tell us that it’s good to have an imaginary friend, and that it will help us become friends with other people, but I think they’re wrong. I don’t think the pale boy who walks through walls and wears a scary grin is Lizzie’s friend. Friends don’t hurt each other – Miss Eddy said so.
Felix has gone missing. The last time anyone saw him, he was with Lizzie. I think the boy had something to do with it – the mar
Morning RitualIt was a known fact of life that Arnold could not function without his morning coffee. Thankfully, he had married a woman who made an amazing brew. Jessica was amazing, and Arnold knew that a shlub like him didn’t deserve an angel like her. He made sure she felt duly appreciated, too—after her coffee elevated him above his zombie state.
The weekend had come and gone, and once again Monday was making its forceful presence known. Not that he had to go in to work today… instead, he would have to attend his mother’s funeral. Not that he was grieving. In fact, it was going to be all he could do not to dance on the woman’s grave once the last scoopful of Earth was atop her. Six feet was not enough. She had always tried to control his life. And she had downright hated Jessica. Perversely, as horrible as she had been, she had also always insisted she was a good mother even to her last breath. No one in the family missed her.
Arnold navigated his house my memory, n
Last MealLawrence Russel Brewer was a Texan white supremacist who, along with three of his friends, was tried and convicted for the 1998 murder of African-American James Byrd, Jr. and sentenced to death row. On September 21st, 2011, Brewer was executed by lethal injection. He expressed no remorse for his crime, and stated he would do it all over again if he could. Make no mistake, this man was a monster in virtually every sense of the word. In all likelihood, he deserved to die, and his death was probably too quick and painless to be honest. However, that isn't the point of this little story you're reading.
The point, rather, has to do with Brewer's last meal request...
Shortly before his execution, Lawrence Russel Brewer was given a choice of what his last meal would be, as is customary in many US prison systems when executing inmates. Brewer's last meal request was a veritable feast: Two chicken fried steaks smothered in gravy with sliced onions, a triple meat bacon cheeseburger with fixings
The Mirror BladeThe mirror was smooth and cold to the touch as she ran her fingers across it. They didn't leave a mark - not a whisper of fingerprints trailing a pale grey line. It shouldn't be there; there was no record of a mirror being brought in, but here it was, completely out of place and completely intriguing. She pulled her hand away and stepped back. The mirror was huge, standing at least six foot tall and surrounded by silver gilding that formed twisted celtic patterns and drew the faces of children and faeries.
Liz looked around as the soft sound of music drifted towards her ears. The doors were shut and she was the only one in the room. She swivelled back towards the mirror as the sound grew louder: It was coming from beyond the glass.
"What?" she whispered to herself as she took a step closer to the glass.
The music grew louder and she could pick out voices amongst the melody. She couldn't understand the voices but they were clear and pure, singing high and bright but muffled through the
